The event that the Internal Vice President is most involved with is Banquet. S/he will not be responsible for planning the event but simply following up with banquet officers. The Internal Vice President selects banquet officers to serve a year-long term and meets with them periodically throughout the year in order to plan the event. Meetings can start on a biweekly basis and increase frequency as needed as the event comes closer.
Banquet officers coordinate the logistics and groundwork of the event while the Internal Vice President and Board make big picture decisions regarding direction and theme of the event.
Banquet serves as the end-of-year wrap up for the MSA as a whole. With the discontinuation of MSA Grad, banquet serves as both a conclusion for the year and a sendoff for graduating students. As such, banquet should include some superlative or honorary ceremony for graduating students and give them distinction (such as going up to get food first).
Banquet should begin with a recitation of the Quran and also include a community aspect (a senior video, talent showcase, etc.). Additionally, there should be some entertainment aspect from a professional (comedian, nasheed group, etc.).
Banquet should be funded through tickets (preferably through Venmo because Eventbrite takes a cut of each sale), and proceeds should be directed to a predetermined charity cause that is advertised alongside banquet. MSA does not make money off of banquet; it is traditionally a celebratory event that provides benefit for attendees and the charity it is partnered with. Food should generally be coordinated with the charity cause of that year (if applicable) in order to support small restaurants. Catering and supplies should be determined at least two weeks ahead of banquet.
